This house is inspired by the creative energy of its inhabitants’ life and work, integrating the garden as laboratory with the living spaces and private bedrooms of the house. The house unfolds from the level of the city through an open plan articulated by a central volume of steel, which extrudes outwards materially from the hearth. This demarcates living spaces while simultaneously extending to bridge the gap between street and deck, offering a view to the city and into the intimacy of the garden below. The steel surfaces become a stair to the garden level where a continuous working surface of concrete and wood connects inside and out, allowing the garden to infiltrate the lower level and establish a working platform to explore the landscape.
